Profile
Katrina M. Homel is Legal Counsel at the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA). Prior to joining the NJSBA’s Legal and Labor Relations Department, Ms. Homel was an attorney at Hill Wallack LLP, where she was a member of the firm’s school, municipal, employment and labor, and trusts and estates law practice groups. While at Hill Wallack, Ms. Homel represented school districts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania as the board attorney and as insurance counsel. Ms. Homel previously represented students with special needs and their families in special education matters as well as in guardianship, adult services, and related matters at a New Jersey disability law firm. Immediately following law school, she was a Legal Fellow at the District of Columbia Public Charter School Board. Ms. Homel is a Trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the Chair-Elect of the New Jersey State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. She is also a member of the State Bar Association’s Membership Committee, School Law Special Committee, and Putting Lawyers First Task Force as well as the New Jersey Law Journal’s Young Lawyers Advisory Board. Additionally, she serves on her town’s historic preservation commission and the board of the state chapter of her college alumni association. She earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. While participating in the D.C. Street Law Clinic at Georgetown Law, she taught a civil rights and mock trial course at a local public high school. Prior to law school, Ms. Homel was an AmeriCorps*Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) in Washington, D.C. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with General and Departmental Honors from Vassar College, where she earned a B.A. in Political Science.
