For over three decades, USA Architects has been committed to designing built environments that reflect the vision and mission of public-school districts. This work demonstrates the ways and means of creating flexible learning environments that facilitate interdisciplinary methodologies. The firm's K-12 Design Studio work with schools to build environments that aid in the execution of unique (and standardized) programming and individual teaching styles. We’re committed to enhancing a school’s curriculum by listening to the leadership, staff, students, and community, and translating their needs into an environment that is functional, beautiful, and inspiring.

Our passion for excellence has brought us to new heights throughout the Mid-Atlantic States. For the last seven years we ’ve been working in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland with clients such as Morris & Somerset County Vocational Technical Schools, North Brunswick Township School District, Elizabeth Public Schools, East Amwell, South Hunterdon, South Plainfield, School District of Philadelphia, Baltimore City Public Schools and Maryland Stadium Authority, and Cape Henlopen School District in  Delaware. Our work at North Brunswick Township School District has received national recognition by winning the 2022  Ame rican School & University Educational Interiors Showcase. Although we’re proud of these accomplishments; the USA Architects team has a proven record of designing 21st century learning environments within budget while offering sou nd project controls and outstanding technical expertise.

The team’s Educational Planner and USA’s K-12 Studio Leader Peter Campisano, AIA has dedicated his entire 37-year career to New Jersey Public Schools. He has worked with over 75 districts throughout the state providing key leadership in the design and construction of new construction, additions and renovations, health and life safety upgrades, building systems modernizations, security upgrades, long range facility planning, referendum planning, and energy savings programs. Pete has overseen the master planning, programming, design and construction of the LEED Platinum Center for Lifelong Learning, the award winning Developmental Learning Center for the Morris Union Jointure Commission, the new 21st Century Middle School for North Brunswick Township School District, and he is currently in design for three new major construction projects: Morris County Vocational Technical New Entrepreneur Center, the Somerset County Vocational Technical School New CTE School, and a new middle school for the South Hunterdon School District. This is in addition to his daily support of the other school districts he serves, providing Architect of Record task order services. His knowledge of NJ Department of Education specifications and standards is comprehensive and unsurpassed, as is his understanding and responsibility towards public funding and state aid for educational projects.

 Press Releases

  • Somerville, NJ October 18, 2022 USA Architects, Planners and Interior Designers, Ltd, an award-winning, Mid-Atlantic based architecture firm that delivers exemplary designs with forward-thinking purpose, announces today that the North Brunswick Township New Knowledge Resource Center, North Brunswick, New Jersey, has been selected for publication in American School & University 2022© Educational Interiors Showcase. It is featured in the August 2022 edition of the magazine and online at the firm’s website USAArchitects.com. An annual competition honoring excellence in educational interiors and facility planning, the Educational Interiors Showcase spotlights today’s most effective learning environments.

The new North Brunswick Township 7 - 8 Middle school is the district’s first school building to be built in 40 years and is part of a $77 million referendum to relieve congestion, overcrowding and expand educational programs among the district‘s schools. This progressive 2-story facility takes advantage of scenic views of its tree-lined borders, provides indoor-outdoor connections via outside courtyards adjacent to makerspaces and art rooms, and contains learning labs, general classrooms, and huddle spaces for collaborative engagement. The academic portion of the school is designed imperceptibly separate from the cafeteria, gymnasium, and  library/media center (Knowledge Resource Center), which provides these spaces to the community after hours.

Centrally located off the main entrance, the Knowledge Resource Center—the “K” as it is known to the students—is the heart of the North Brunswick Township Middle School. This 4,500 square foot double height space integrates a traditional school library with the latest digital technology and resources. Low, curving bookshelves and soft seating throughout preserves the feeling of openness and creates informal areas for students to read, research, or collaborate.

The left side of the Knowledge Resource Center features wall mounted smart boards and movable desks and chairs that can be reconfigured for working either independently or in groups. This area can also be used for testing and tutoring. Direct access to two computer labs is provided at the rear of the space. The right side of the space features a sitting stair, which can be used for either instruction in a group lecture setting or casually by students. This stair connects the lower level to an intermediate landing with additional bookshelves, a seating area on the upper balcony, and access to the second floor of the school. Double height curtain wall flanks the east and west sides, providing ample natural daylighting and access to two exterior courtyards on either side.
